The key to encouraging yourself when you have depression is to start your day with easy things. Each time you do this, add another easy task so that you can gradually reach your goal or do the task that you want.
1. Get out of bed
When you wake up, convince yourself that if you can do this, then you can do other things too.
2. Walk outside the house
Doing physical activity outside the home can improve your mood. Try to walk outside the house even if it's only for 10 minutes. Changing the atmosphere around you is one good way to change your mood.
3. Praise Yourself
Every time you do something that you want, give yourself a compliment. No matter how trivial it is. When you do make a cup of coffee, praise yourself. When you manage to put yourself in order, too, praise yourself. Praise is a powerful way of encouraging yourself.
4. Avoid negativity
The negativity that our minds accept can turn your mood into a mess and make you even less excited. Therefore, avoid negative things, such as talking to people who are toxic, reading sad news, and surfing the internet. Instead of encouraging you, it causes your mood to fall even more.
5. Create a checklist
By seeing what tasks you have done will increase your enthusiasm for doing other tasks. Check list for each task you will be working on. Mark the tasks you have worked on and post the lists where you can see them.
Another alternative is to journaling about what kinds of things you've done today. In addition to being a powerful way of encouraging yourself, noting your successes will leave room for negativity to enter your mind.
6. Get social
Socializing is another way of encouraging yourself that is worth trying. Communicate with people you feel comfortable with. Helping others do their job is also a great way to improve your mood.
7. Get enough sleep
Depression often makes you feel mentally and physically tired. Therefore enough sleep will help improve your mood. But don't get too little sleep or sleep too much. Both of these things will actually worsen your mood.
