Difference between male and female skin and how to take care of it.
The stereotype of men avoiding to care about their skin is changing nowadays and it’s changing fast. A skincare routine is something that is to be followed regardless of gender as your skin needs protection and care. It just isn’t about how we look, it’s also about how we feel our skin. But when it comes to skincare there are obvious questions about the difference between male and female skin and how to take care of it.
Each one of us have our own perception of what is considered healthy skin. So here we are giving you some tricks and tips to maintain your skin as we explain how different male skin is from female skin.
#1 Oiliness
Compared to the ladies, men’s skin is more oily. The is because of glands called sebaceous glands. These glands produce the oil to protect your skin which is a good thing. However, when a hormone known as dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is produced in excess, it leads to a higher level of sebum (the oily layer on the skin).
Thus, your face skin becomes oily again within a few minutes after a facewash. Although with a little care you can manage oily skin very well.
Tips to prevent oily skin: You must cleanse your face completely with a men’s facewash especially the ones that are made for oily skin. This will clean your skin but remember not to overdo it. You can clean your face with a face wash only twice a day or a maximum of three times. Otherwise, your skin will become dry and there can be break-out.
Also if you keep your face dried for a long time then your skin tends to produce more oil to keep it moisturized. Thus it is suggested to always apply a moisturizer after you wash your face to maintain skin health.
#2 Roughness
Another major issue that most men face is rough skin. Many of us think that roughness of the skin is only caused due to its dryness, however, it is not always true. From the products you use on your skin to the water temperature that you set while taking a shower and the food you eat, there are many other factors that might affect your skin.
Many people have sensitive skin which gets affected easily by some products that you use including makeup, face masks and so on. So here are the solutions to the problem.
Tips to handle Dry Skin: Moisturizer is a panacea for skin problems but the challenge is to choose the right one for you. There are a wide number of options to explore which makes things very confusing.
You must also make sure that you do not take bath in hot water, however relaxing you may find it. It is preferable to go for warm to lukewarm water. Take showers every day, I am not saying that most people don’t but if you are one of the irregular ones then please make it a daily practice.
Avoid using a bar cleanser. Liquid cleansers work much better on rough skin. Also, don’t forget to moisturize your hands and face after you shower.
#3 Acne issues
Acne is a bigger problem for boys, especially around puberty age. But in some cases, even after the teenage is over, the acne keeps growing due to the clogged pores. These clogged pores collect bacteria, which makes your skin unhealthy and spreads acne. With hormonal changes, acne is common to happen but if it keeps growing then you should start focusing on remedies to solve the issue.
Tips to solve the acne problem: Acne can be a disaster if you do not maintain proper hygiene to keep your skin cleaned. Regular bath and apply suitable moisturizers. Avoid skincare products with too many chemicals and go for natural and organic products.
Most importantly, be careful while shaving and always use a new blade for your razor. Most men keep using the same blade even after the edges have gone rough and that damages the skin. It is also advised to add antibiotic foam to the cream you apply for shaving to be extra cautious.
#4 Irritations
Many people have very sensitive skin which reacts to new products. The results can be bad and might cause marks on your face or redness produced which might also lead to extreme irritation. The break-outs of the skin will lead to dryness and one after the other you would have to face several skin issues. Thus for people who have extremely sensitive skin are advised to consult a dermatologist and follow their advice.
Tips to avoid the irritations– Avoid all the skin care products or cosmetics that has alcohol in it and you must go for moisturizers or face washes which have only minimum ingredients. You may go for silicone-based foundation and light powder if you want to do a light touch-up on any occasion.
The shaving razors and shaving cream that you use should be completely hygienic and make sure that you sterilize your razor before using it.
Lastly, do a patch test and try the new product on your arm and look for any adverse reaction for the next 24 hours. If you don’t find any reactions then you can use it on your face.
#5 Quick Aging
Aging doesn’t differentiate between men and women but men often face an issue named Liver spots. Now it isn’t really is related to your liver. The liver spots are occurred on your skin because of the UV rays from the sun. Many men tend to not look for SPF (Sun Protection Factor) in their lotions. If you worked outdoors then you should for a lotion that has higher SPF in it. Aging of skin in men can also be caused by the fact that men really don’t pay attention to it.
Most men neglect the fact that their skin goes through changes after they are 35 years old. Work pressure can lead to Dark rings around your eyes and there can be wrinkles. Early treatment can always make you look healthy and young.
Tips for anti-aging: Along with using facial cleansers before going to bed, it is also important to you use eye cream. Eye creams will help you to get rid of the wrinkles which primarily make you look old. Along with that, you should include exfoliation in your routine especially the charcoal masks which are very much suitable for men’s skin.
